About The Ausudan Mission
Empowering Sindiru Village, One Dream At A Time
Ausudan's journey to transform Sindiru Village is a testament to the power of dreams and the unwavering support of our partners, like Nuhra Community. Together, we have embarked on a mission to bring positive change to the lives of those in need.
Ausudan's Inception
In 2012, Ausudan was founded with a vision to rebuild the village, which had been ravaged by civil war. James Wani, along with his cousin Denis and Denis's family, undertook a remarkable journey of resilience and hope to bring this vision to life.
An Enduring Partnership For Impact
Ausudan's partnership with Nuhra Community has been the bedrock of the journey. From James's initial days in Australia to the founding of Ausudan Inc, Nuhra Community has been unwavering in its support.
About Nuhra Community
Letitia Allan, a Nuhra Community member, tells the story of the relationship between Ausudan Inc and Nuhra Community: “We first met James in 2005 when he moved in next door to one of three units that we, the Nuhra Community, were renting out to refugee families. James was accompanied by his brother and cousin, Denis, and Denis's wife and daughter...
Our group had been running a family support program for many years for Australian families, and through renting these units to refugees, our world suddenly expanded to include other cultures and other ways of living. We met some truly courageous and remarkable people along the way, and their presence in our lives - what we learned and what we shared - was an immensely enriching experience for everyone. James and his family were a central part of that experience.
James stayed in our unit for almost three years, and in that time, we saw him learn to drive, work at a bakery, take on security work, go to university, and deal with the many different reactions he encountered from the Australians he met. No matter what challenges he was faced with – and there were many – he was always cheerful, positive, and very keen to learn. It was only gradually that we learned a little bit about his family and how he came to spend his younger years in a Ugandan refugee camp.
At the end of three years, James decided to move out on his own. He was keen to try living independently, and he wanted to bring his wife, Christine, out from South Sudan. We kept regular contact, and eventually, when his wife arrived in Australia, we were able to invite her to some Family Harmony Camps that we had been funded to run. And so, another wonderful friendship developed.
Around this time – and unknown to us - James decided to try collecting money at a shopping centre to fund the building of a school in his village of Sindiru, which had been completely destroyed in South Sudan’s civil war. When he and Christine went out - armed with only a few photos and a tin can - they were stunned by the interest and the generosity of ordinary people. It was this generosity of spirit that encouraged him to go and set up a not-for-profit organisation, Ausudan Inc, in 2012.
Nuhra Community, which runs its own charity, Nuhra Community Inc, has continued to support James' dream since that day. Two of the Nuhra Community members serve on the Board of Ausudan Inc, and many of the people who have been involved with our charity have also supported Ausudan. It has been our privilege to be part of such an inspiring and life-giving project. We all believe that small can be very beautiful – and very powerful - and we continue to dream…"
Nurturing Dreams, Building Futures
Ausudan's commitment to Sindiru Village began with practical initiatives aimed at ensuring safety, well-being, and access to education. We prioritised projects like borehole installation, the introduction of a grinding machine, providing goats to empower the community and the build of Sindiru Primary School.
As we set our sights on immediate goals to continue paving the way for meaningful change in Sindiru, our objectives include securing teacher salaries, building an outdoor kitchen, and enhancing critical infrastructure.
Looking ahead, our long-term vision is one of possibility, where the village thrives as a place of hope and opportunity. We aim to create a future where the community flourishes.
We invite you to join us on this remarkable journey of empowerment and transformation. Together, we can nurture dreams, build futures, and make a lasting difference for the people of Sindiru.
